All-time peak: 397,905 concurrent Steam players on October 5, 2026
According to SteamDB, AION 2 peaked at 397,905 concurrent Steam players on October 5 (UTC), its free global launch day — about 61,600 above Throne and Liberty’s 2024 launch peak of 336,300. During paid Advanced Access from September 30 the game peaked at 171,530 while topping Steam’s global Top Sellers revenue chart. Steam counts exclude PURPLE players, who share the same global servers.
Launch-Week Player Count Milestones
The dated record so far: the September Launch Scale Test Playtest app peaked at 73,761 concurrent players on September 17. Paid Advanced Access opened September 30 and peaked at 171,530 on its first day. The free global launch on October 5 set the current all-time peak of 397,905. The first day-after figure, October 6, is 203,803. All figures are Steam-only counts attributed to SteamDB and reported October 6–7, 2026.
The jump from 171,530 to 397,905 — about 226,000 players — is the free-to-play switch. Official live service began October 5 at 10:00 PM KST on Steam and PURPLE, after five days of paid Founder’s Pack Advanced Access. Each stage of access more than doubled the previous peak.
A launch-day peak is a headline, not a population forecast. The October 6 figure is the first normal-day datapoint, and where the chart settles across the first weeks matters more than the day-one record. This page records verified, dated milestones rather than freezing a live number that changes hourly.
#1 Across Three Steam Charts
The sales story matches the player count. NC announced that during paid Advanced Access AION 2 maintained the No. 1 position on Steam’s global Top Sellers revenue chart and ranked No. 1 in 15 countries and regions. For the week of September 29–October 6 it also claimed the top spot on Valve’s weekly global top sellers chart.
As of October 6, NC’s announcement reports No. 1 across three Steam charts: Top Sellers, New & Trending, and Top Free to Play. The press-release headline reads “AION 2 Ascends to New Heights: 400,000-Plus Concurrent Players and #1 Across Three Steam Charts.”
NC marked the No. 1 milestone with its first global coupon code, TAKEFLIGHTAION2, issued after the October 1 server maintenance and tracked on the coupon codes page. Chart positions move daily, so every claim above carries its October date and should be rechecked against the live store.
What Steam Charts Leave Out
Steam charts count only Steam. NC confirms that Steam and PURPLE players play together on the same global servers, so the actual population of every global server is higher than any Steam chart shows. A falling Steam graph therefore does not by itself mean empty servers.
The global service runs in four regions — North America, South America, Europe, and Asia — with eight supported languages. The Korean and Taiwanese editions, live since November 19, 2025, are separate services with separate populations and never appear in these charts.
The launch-week constraint story was server capacity rather than demand: character creation locked on crowded servers, and NC opened new European servers on September 30, followed by two more EU servers — Nathara (Elyos) and Tassin (Asmodian) — on October 8. If you are deciding where to play, the server transfer page tracks the confirmed October 13–27 transfer window for moving between servers later.
How Launch Week Compares
The comparison point reported by Inven Global: Throne and Liberty, NC’s previous MMORPG, peaked at 336,300 concurrent Steam players on October 6, 2024. AION 2’s launch peak of 397,905 is 61,605 higher, making it the bigger of NC’s two big Steam launches.
Against its own trajectory, AION 2 more than doubled at every access stage: 73,761 during the open test, 171,530 during paid Advanced Access, and 397,905 at the free launch. The pattern matches a free-to-play launch where the paid window only captures the most committed buyers.
Records age quickly in live service. This page treats the October 5 peak as a dated milestone, not a permanent fact, and will record any new all-time high with its own date and source when one is verified.
Player Counts vs Reviews
Player counts and reviews tell two different stories. At the time of Inven Global’s October 7 report, the Steam store rating sat at Mixed with 69% positive out of 34,969 user reviews. Among players with more than 10 hours of playtime, 81% left positive reviews.
That split — skeptical day-one reviews alongside positive reviews from players who went deep — is a familiar launch pattern when queues and early friction dominate first impressions. The monetization page keeps the separate pay-to-win assessment, and none of those judgments change the player-count facts above.
How to Check Live Numbers Yourself
SteamDB tracks hourly concurrent players for AION 2’s app page as a third-party tracker. The in-game server-select screen shows live per-server population and creation locks, which is the number that actually decides whether you can join friends.
Community trackers such as aion2.gaming.tools aggregate population, queue, and status information across regions, while official announcements appear on the Steam news hub and the aion2.plaync.com notice system. Treat any tracker that shows a single current number as a snapshot, not a constant.
When reading any chart, check three things: whether it counts Steam only, whether the figure is a peak or an average, and which timezone defines the day. The table below sticks to Steam peaks with explicit dates and sources.

Chart Data This Page Does Not Freeze
Live player counts change hourly, so this page records dated verified milestones instead of a stale current number. The fields below stay open until a dated, sourced figure exists for each.
